Product description of Adaferin gel:

The active constituent of Adaferin is Adapalene; a third-generation topical retinoid.

Adaferin gel is a topical preparation which is used for the treatment of mild to moderate acne of the face, chest or back. It is also used to treat keratosis pilaris as well as other skin conditions. Adaferin gel reduces the number and severity of acne pimples and help in quick healing of pimples. Adaferin gel has some effect of reducing inflammation. It unblocks the pores to treat blackheads or whiteheads and mildly inflamed spots.

Mechanism of action of Adaferin gel:

It belongs to group known as a retinoid. It works by normalizing the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells resulting in decreased micro comedones formation.

What are the contraindications of Adaferin gel?

  • Do not use Adaferin gel if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • Do not use Adaferin gel if you have eczema or sunburn.
  • If you are allergic to any ingredient in Adaferin, avoid using Adaferin gel.

What are the drug interactions of Adaferin gel?

  • Do not use other drugs for the treatment of acne along with Adaferin gel.
  • Do not use any herbal and dietary products while administering this drug.
  • Do not use Clindamycin, salicylic acid, and Benzoyl peroxide.

Storage condition of Adaferin gel:

Store this drug at room temperature 25 to 30oC. Keep this drug away from heat and sunlight. You should keep this drug out of reach from children. 

How to use Adaferin gel?

Adaferin is recommended to be used at bed time. Wash your hands before and after using Adaferin gel and clean the affected area using soap and gently dry. Apply a thin film of Adaferin gel to the affected area using your finger and surrounding area. Rub it gently. A mild sensation of warmth or slight stinging may occur shortly after using Adaferin gel.

Missed dose of Adaferin gel:

Use it as soon as possible, if you missed a dose of Adaferin gel. Do not use if time is near to the next dose.

Overdose of Adaferin gel:

Do not use more than recommended dose at one time as it can cause overdose effect. In the case of overdose consult a doctor as soon as possible for the treatment.

What are the side effects of Adaferin gel?

While using Adaferin gel you can feel some common side effects such as dry skin, feeling of warmth, irritation, temporary burning and stinging, itching, peeling, redness, scaling, rash, hives; itching; difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, and tongue.

What are the precautions of Adaferin gel?

  • You should not use Adaferin gel if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding as it can show harmful effect.
  • This is a topical preparation so avoid using the medication on eyes, nose or lips.
  • Do not cover the affected area with any cloth after application of this drug.
  • Do not apply Adaferin to cuts, abrasions, eczematous skin, or sunburned skin.
  • Avoid going in sunlight and do not use sun beds, as your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight than usual.
