Ocufen Eye Drops contain Generic Flurbiprofen sodium as an active constituent which is used for the treatment of pupil from constricting, or narrowing, during eye surgery. It is available in ophthalmic preparation. The active constituent of Ocufen Eye Drops i.e. Flurbiprofen is also used to reduce pain, swelling, and joint stiffness from arthritis, and in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.

Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen) comes under Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory medication (NSAID) of the propionic acid class which is similar to Ibuprofen. Flurbiprofen is a non-selective COX inhibitor and it works by inhibiting both activity of COX-1 and COX-2. Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen) also inhibits prostaglandin synthesis to reduce pain, inflammation, swelling and fever.

What are the contraindications of Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen)?

  • You should not use Ocufen Eye Drops if you are allergic to any ingredient in Flurbiprofen.
  • If you previously had bypass surgery then do not use Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen).
  • Do not use Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen) if you have liver and kidney disorder.

You should not use following medication along with Ocufen Eye Drops as it can affect the action of Ocufen such as Methotrexate, Meloxicam, Carprofen, Deracoxib, Firocoxib, Tepoxalin, Lithium, Warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven, Cidofovir, Ketorolac, Methotrexate, Pemetrexed, Etodolac, Firocoxib, and Prednisone.

How to store Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen)?

You should keep Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen) at room temperature 20 to 30oC; Keep this drug away from heat and sunlight. Do not store this drug at moisture place.

Method of administration of Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen):

Remove your lenses and spectacles before using Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen). Tilt your head back slowly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper as you press out a drop, and then close your eye. Use Ocufen Eye Drops only in the eye you are having surgery on. Do not touch the tip of eye drop to avoid contamination. Wash your hands before and after application of this medication.

In case of missed dose of Ocufen:

Use as soon as possible if you missed the dose of this medication. Do not use this medication if the time is near to next dose.

Overdose of Ocufen:

Do not use more than recommended dose of this medication as it can produce harmful effects. If you feel overdose symptoms consult the doctor as soon as possible.

What are the side effects of Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen)?

Dizziness, drowsiness, gas, headache, heartburn, nausea, stomach upset, stuffy nose, bloody or black, change in the amount of urine produced; chest pain, confusion; dark urine, depression, fainting, fever, chills, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, and ringing in the ears.
